How to Treat Acid Reflux/GERD the Natural Way (via Apple Cider Vinegar and Pickle Juice)
Acid Reflux
Acid reflux is a common ailment among all ages and ethnicities. Cultures that thrive off of spicy foods tend to suffer more from indigestion and acid reflux. Unfortunately, it's these spicy foods that most tend to cause burning, trouble swallowing, and regurgitation. Wines and acidic fruits (like oranges, tangerines, apples and lemons) are also big contributors to acid reflux. Teas and coffee are also big culprits. Limiting your food intake at the expense of acid reflux symptoms is very frustrating. It is especially very frustrating for me since I love to drink wine and eat very spicy food!
GERD
Acid Reflux, also known as Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD),is caused by a failure of the lower esophageal sphincter. Common causes for acid reflux include: obesity, hypercalcemia, Prednisolone use, hiatal hernias, Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome.
Natural Treatments
1. Apple Cider Vinegar
2. Pickle Juice
Apple Cider Vinegar
Take only 1 teaspoon a day.
Surprisingly this has been a cure-all for me in terms of managing my acid reflux. I no longer need to take pills to suppress my symptoms.
Pickle Juice
Eat one dill pickle and drink 1 teaspoon of the pickle juice.
This method is also effective but unfortunately, dill pickles are high in sodium. Please consider this before eating a pickle a day if you have high blood pressure.
How does Apple Cider Vinegar and Pickle Juice Work?
Acid reflux is caused by the body's inability to produce the necessary digestive acids in the stomach. So when you drink apple cider vinegar or pickle juice you give the body what it needs to do the job and that stops the pain from indigestion. Sounds ironic but it works!
Brew a Darker Roast
If you can't eliminate coffee from your diet, stick to darker roast. Darker roasts are more gentle to your stomach. Because darker brews are roasted longer, they contain compounds that slow the production of stomach irritating acids. They also have less caffeine, which is a trigger for acid reflux.
