Donate to Kiva.org and Receive your Money and Kindness Right Back!

Updated on April 16, 2014

Volunteer or Donate?

Do you want to help others but find it difficult to find a volunteer group or donation site that you can trust?
Often times I feel lazy to volunteer my time or energy and since I don't want to disappoint, I don't attempt to set up volunteer time. I could volunteer at the local hospital or library but I know that would require filling out long applications and offering references. Who has time for that? And by the time I fill out the application, I usually am not interested in devoting my weekend or free time towards offering services anymore.

Monetary Donations are easy

When this happens, I notice I regret not just offering a donation or monetary gift. Monetary gifts are the easiest way to give ( as long as you have the means to give). It just requires handing over your credit card or Paypal account. How easy!
Though how sure are you, when you hand over money, that it is going directly to the charity/ people in need? How much goes to the administration or CEO? I've heard that the CEO of the American Red Cross takes home a 6 digit salary. Yes, he or she may be doing good work, however; that is not where I'd like my money to go.

Kiva

I have found a good and reliable site called kiva.org that helps people around the globe and only takes in a small profit ( to pay for handling and transferring of monetary loans). Through kiva.org you can donate and see exactly to who your money is going to and how they plan to use the money. The best part is that they pay you right back ( minus interest). The minimum donation or loan is $25 and kiva.org will add a $3.25 processing fee.
When do you get your money back? You will receive it in intervals throughout the year as your loanee makes money. You will eventually get your money back and kiva.org will notify you as account accumulate back your money.

Nonprofit Organization with Good Intentions

Kiva is a nonprofit organization that offers microloans to individuals across the globe. They do all the work to find the people on need and transferring and collecting monetary donations. They notify you once your loan has been paid back. The cool thing is you can to see a list of the people seeking loans and he reason for the loan request. You get to see who else has donated and how much has been donated so far. You can continue to keep tabs on the people you have donated to in the past.

Loan is paid back. Now what?

Loan is paid back. Now what? You can either pocket back the money or continue to re-give! I enjoy re-giving and have given to 9 individuals so far. These individuals, I like to think, have better lives and better businesses because of my contributed loan.

Compounded Donations

To date, I have donated $74.97 of my own money. However, with repayments in the past 2 years, I have been able to relend a total of $225.00. This is nearly 3x the money I have put in!
