DIY Laser Hair Removal at Home
Laser Hair at Home
The FDA has cleared laser hair products for at home use. Yeah! I was thrilled to find out that I could purchase a device and use it to treat my entire body at my leisure. My first question was: Is it safe? Suprisingly, yes! Some at home treatments are even FDA approved to use on your face as long as you stay clear of your eyes.
Fast, Easy and Inexpensive
The cost of purchasing an at home device is considerable more affordable than seeking professional care at a medical spa. Most home devices run in the $400 to $300 price range. This is considerably less expensive than paying $5000 and upwards for the entire body.
Performing the procedure at your convenience is also an added bonus. No need to take time off from work or spend gas money to drive to appointments. Having the entire body laser takes several years to achieve permanent results since most spas recommend 6 week intervals between treatments (and multiple treatments for best results is recommended). The underarms alone require at least 6 to 12 treatments. The darker your skin, the more treatments are required per body part to achieve permanent results.
Am I too dark for treatment?
Having darker pigmented skin, I was a little worried about finding a device that was approved for my skin tone. Luckily most home laser products have sensors to determine if your skin is too dark for treatment. This built in sensor helps prevent users from potentially scarring their body if they are not a good candidate for laser hair removal.
Keep in mind, the ideal candidate is one who has dark hair and fair skin color.
Hair Color
Please keep in mind that this laser is best suited for individuals with light skin and darker pigmented hair. Individuals with blonder or gray hair are not good candidates for laser hair removal. Black and Brown hair are the ideal hair color for best results.
Where can I laser?
Men and women can laser their legs, arms, chest, back, face, underarms, and/or bikini area safely.
Painful?
Some body parts may be a little more sensitive than others, but for the most part, the procedure involves mild pain. Depending on what setting you use, the lower settings may be less intense than the higher settings. Topical anesthetics can be used prior to treatment or even just one drink of alcohol can diminish the pain!
Expected Results
As similar to professional laser hair removal, it will take several treatments per body part to achieve permanent results. I started noticing reduction in growth even after my second treatment with Flash n' Go.
